Retirement Project : Phase 000 Updated

Seems it's not the best to build up and engine grounds up. An IG contact steered me away from that and into buying a used long block and dressing it up. But what came to mind was the fact that I would forever change Scarlett's 912E heritage and this is something I need to think about. And what I mean is, maybe I need to look into my black sheep. Literally, a Black 1990's Carrera with the engine looks I want and a cool setup. No wings, maybe ducktail. This is definitely a crazy thought.

The Yellow Wall: Red on Yellow Part Two.

So I found my canvas. And this time I brought my Scarlett 912E. This weeks issue of the Yellow Wall is; Red on Yellow.

I drove Scarlett most of the week, just one day I took Carrera to PA-FL due to the rain, don't want to risk Scarlett on the freeway (given I need to do a brake job) and long hauls is best left for the younger 400 ponies.

As I read Magnus Walker's; URBAN OUTLAW: Dirt Don't Slow You Down. In the begging of the book, he talks about how he chooses which car to drive; he mentions the anticipation of turning the key to see if the car will turn the engine, something I often (always) experience when driving Scarlett. Magnus went on talking about how it is that one connects with the car and can only be achieved by driving the car. So I soon realized that despite the coolness of having the option to ride any of my three cars, there is a missing element, something I can't recover, and that is to get to know my cars better. Isabella is a particular case, she was and forever will be my first Porsche, no matter when or how long, the feeling of driving her is always present the moment I open the door and hear the mechanical sounds and electronic readiness she performs in advanced.  So, in summary, I will do my best to drive my cars enough time to get to know them, even if it is a week at a time. For now, here is Red on Yellow.

Smoking Hot.

I drive my 991S a lot this week. One specific morning I parked the car in reverse (as I often do), but I decided to push it in further to the point of no return. When I got out of the car, I sensed the smell of pine leaves, similar to a campfire, I used to setup fires for cooking by using the very flamable pine leaves...  Turns out my 991S was cooking some... I decided to move my car, last thing I need is for the car to auto-burn itself...

Burned...

Burned...

Rain.

Another reason to smile. Rain.

If anything, Rain gives me the opportunity to wash my cars more ofthen.

The Yellow Wall: Silver on Yellow. Part One.

IG is an interesting service, you make friends, connect with car lovers (or whatever you are passionate about), but not only is it fun to interact, you get to learn how other people practice their passion, or crazyiness, regardless its always fun. Recently I had been looking at different car colors and I stumbled upon an orange 911 paired with a large gray wall behind it, the contrast was awesome and I decided to look for my own wall, or my own canvas for a short serie  of, you know it, my 3 cars. If lucky, I will take the Macan for a shot.

The Wall

It was hard to find a large wall facing East or West. Seems most are facing North or South wich makes it less vivid, given that there is less light. My search took me to fly over the city using Apple Maps and Google Maps to seek my potential canvas locations. After a 30 min search, I decided to use the wall nest to my job. There is a small Shopping Center, and thankfully Walmart has a massive yellow wall. And here we are, my Yellow Canvas.

Part One

After looking online, I found what I need by foot. The next morning I drove early to avoid cars and trailers. The Yellow Wall is located in the rear section of the shopping center, in other words, loading docks, trucks, etc. Luckily the one driver who was partially blocked by my photo session was fun enough to pretend to take photos of my car while driving his rig, a very nice smile and an effusive thumbs up by the driver and he steered elsewhere to let me try out my new canvas.

Here are the photos of my 991S, aka as Carrera. The session is called: Silver on Yellow

911R 004

The story of this car begins when I did not know it was at Canepa. I subscribed to 000 Magazine, and I as anxiously waited for issue #003, I noticed that I had missed the initial issue #000. I ordered it thinking I would find the origins of my 986 as the Boxster prototype was covered in the original issue #000, but little did I know I would find a yellow 911R, 1/004 this being the 004. A great article about this car and I knew it was at Canepa. So my son and I headed out to Canepa this past Saturday. The rest is in the pictures.

Rennsport Reunion

Recently I finished one of my books. This one is a Porsche Museum book, about...you guessed it, the history of Porsche. Most Porsche books are about the history, the making, how the Boxster came at the right time, how using the same parts for a 986 and a 996 made it possible for Porsche to prosper and give us two things to ponder: 1. more cars like the 997, and 2. making the 996 the most unloved 911 ever... although, in recent years those egg shape front lights are getting more interesting. (I only say this because I have a 986...) anyway, I departed from my initial thought for this post: Rennsport Reunion and Posters. Here are 3, It would be awesome to have all 5 and soon all 6.

Retirement Project : Phase 000

In the next decade I intent to learn how to build a flat six engine for my 912E. The idea is to create it and have it as a second engine. Granted I may need to add a 2nd transmission but for now, its just about learning how and slowly start to secure parts.

000 Magazine

Almost a year since I subscribed, I ordered #issue 000, Prototype and I found myself immersed in the world of prototypes, from the Top 64 to the Boxster beginnings. Both cars have an amazing story. I hope to see Typ 64 one day and I hope to keep my 986 forever. Another car had a great article, the 911 R "a monster in the woods" Yellow R - 911 004

Canepa

Another Dad & Son drive up to Canepa to the last 2017 Cars & Coffee (OctoberFest). Turn out was awesome. I wish they organized it a bit more as cars were all mixed up everywhere. I got there with my 912E at 8:00 am and it was already full. Scarlett may not be show worthy but its a unique car. Hopefully I can show her one day.

RSR from Nice, France

I had been waiting for the RSR to come to PSC. But my IG buddy @porsche_808 got his and I reached out to him, soon enough I get my own 143 RSR along with a nice post card from Nice. Such a nice gesture from a person from Nice.

Santa Monica 2017

Drove down 101S to Santa Monica, CA.

I did not record much on the way in. However, the drive was memorable. 101S is a very beautiful road in its own way, not a top road in the US but for me it is a place of Zen. Speed is not high, nor does it need to be, in fact is the 70-75MPH that I enjoy. I can see the surrounding sights of crops, valleys, mountains and then the magnificent Pacific Ocean. Oh, the joy of driving. Driving a nice car on these magnificent roads.

On my way back I took Latigo Rd from PCH 1 to 101N. Love this windy road. Slow and full of curves.
